you some backlinks. Backlinks are just links from other Web sites to your
lenses. You create backlinks because that's how Google knows you're
a reliable resource and not some joker, so your lens will climb in the Google
rankings. Even better is when you can generate a little extra traffic in the
bargain.

Build backlinks within the Squidoo
communityThere are a lot of new sites popping up just to promote your lenses!
Two good ones are www.lensroll.com and http://isleofsquid.com. Lensroll is
a Digg-style site just for Squidoo lenses. Isle of Squid is a Squidoo-only,
hand-reviewed link directory that's free to submit to. Every backlink helps,
especially on those long-tail terms where there may not be much
competition!

Also, if you've been creating multiple lenses on
different angles in your niche, go ahead and link them to each other. These all
work together to let Google know that you are the resource for your
topic.

Submitting lenses to network sitesNetwork sites are
another source of backlinks and traffic. But manually submitting lenses to these
sites takes forever. I've found a way to make it automatic with Zimbio, to get
some great backlinks and more visitors for your lenses.

Using SquidUtils, you can create an RSS feed that you
can dump right into Zimbio as a blog. It takes about 10 minutes, you don't have
to know anything too technical to set it up, and it works great. Get the step-by-step guide.

Keep building your lenses!Not every lens is a winner.
I can't tell you how many lens ideas I've tried that haven't worked well--lenses
that don't get traffic no matter what I try.
Remember, Michael Jordan missed
more game-winning shots than most basketball players ever take. Every one of
your not-so-good "failures" will teach you something that will help you
succeed.
